With darkness closing in around 4:30 these days, I may have to start taking night photography seriously. Even during the day, the sun seems to be disappearing off to the south. It means no more spying on the seals on my return home from work. Here is a photo from an evening a few weeks ago as one of the seals playfully leapt back and forth in front of the house.
It is still unseasonably warm but the land has embraced autumn. The grass is turning light brown. Across the hills, there are deep auburns and brown of the exposed peat from the cuts made during the summer. The wind has returned, at times, in force. Geese in their V formation fly across the sky, sometimes more than 50 at once. Items are getting tied down, boats secured, and sheep are more often seen bunkering down.
Today I stood on the beach, facing the wind, watching the seals casually watching me as the sea tossed them around. I still find it so easy to get wrapped up in spending time and mental energy on things that are not important or worthwhile. The seals always seem to help me find perspective.
Here is another from a few weeks ago.
