Out of reach

Food enticingly out of reach? Squeeze your way through the bars and climb on top of the pile!

I have felt a bit like Shetland has been teasing me with things I desire just out of reach. Such as a beautiful place to live that was always going to be temporary.

Two amazing highlights of my time here are getting the opportunity to spend time (although it has only been a wee amount of time) at a local wildlife sanctuary and an organic farm. It is an absolute pleasure to see wild animals recover and return to the wild with a new chance at life. The animals are amazing characters. There is so much care, love and respect of the animals as the animals fight to get healthy and able to cope in the wild. At the farm, there is so much to learn about living more sustainably and growing.  The folks who own the farm are an inspiration to me and generous with their knowledge and community support. I continue to increase my awareness on the impact of choices I make (e.g. what I purchase, etc.) and try to make adjustments, albeit small, to reduce my consumption.

I have always found it soothing, fun, and rewarding to care for plants. Not to mention that vegetables and fruit straight from the garden are absolutely delicious! It has been a few years since I have had some land to work. Although I have no garden space at my current place, I am attempting to establish a veggie garden in containers found and borrowed. Who knows if I will yield much. I don't trust my little bit of knowledge learned through experimentation and reading. This is a different environment than I am used to. Fingers crossed I will be enjoying homegrown veg this year!

If I could find a way, I would spend every day in a vegetable garden. In the meantime, I will satisfy myself with watching my containers flourish.

Hope that these ladies don't get any ideas and figure out how to hop over the fence once the containers get moved outside!
