A Look to the West

How do you not get excited about walking into a cottage situated in a brilliant spot with great company? As the weekend approached, I found myself getting nervous. Not about the trip itself. About missing the trip. I am happy to say that I didn't miss the trip. And the experience was much greater than my high expectations.

This was our view for two nights...

and our home. Charming. Even better on the inside.

Deer stalking is popular this time of year but after checking, my friend got permission to use it for the weekend. After a decent drive from Glasgow, four of us walked in on a lovely, clear evening last Friday. I honestly cannot remember the last time I have seen so many stars. We wound our way along the trail, walking mostly in the trees. It was too dark to walk without head lamps (torches) so your world becomes the circle cast by your head lamp. Plants and trees dance in and out of the light. Usually quite quiet. Unless it is rutting season. The stags were a wee bit feisty. I could feel their aggression and energy in the air.

With arrival at the cottage well after midnight, it welcomed us with open arms.

My friends fixed delicious breakfasts of cheese scones, bacon, sausages, and eggs cooked on the fire; a delicious ragu in the evening that had simmered on the fire during the day; and taught me the game of 500. A walk up the hill behind the cottage gave way to tremendous views and terrain that I love so much. You get three photos because I love it so much:)

In the evening, I found a little nook on a rock outcrop along the beach and spent some time gazing to the west, where my family is. This past week, my aunt passed away. I am very lucky she was a part of my family. A wonderful woman. As the sun set behind the Isle of Mull, my thoughts were of her and lovely memories. She will always be in my memory and in my heart.

On Sunday, we made our way home. Lovely to see what surrounded us on our walk in and catch a glimpse of a golden eagle in the crags.

as well as some artistic wire sculptures.

I accidentally left my mug at the cottage...or was it my subconscious giving me a reason to return to this place? Many of you will say that it is no surprise. I have tendency to forget a few items. I don't know. All I can be certain of is my mug will have a wonderful existence at the cottage.
