A break

Two weeks ago today, I was packing in preparation of living in Shetland for a few months. The next day I took a train, another train, a bus, a ferry, another bus, and finally a taxi to reach my home for a wee bit. I'm taking a break.

If you want a label, you could call it:
Re-energizing
Escapism
Adventure
Soul searching
Breathing
Exploring
Learning
Connecting with nature
Letting my mind wander
Becoming more active

Whatever it is, it is great and I am so thankful to have this opportunity. This place gives me so much inspiration and happiness.

At the time I started planning this, I assumed I would be driving. With a US driver's license, I am only allowed to drive in the UK for the first year of residency. I should know by now that everything just takes longer than I expect. I am in a new country. Not a citizen. I am close. Just waiting for an opportunity to take the practical portion of the driver test. So I am here without a car. I am not sure I would have chosen to stay where I am knowing I wouldn't be able to drive. And that would have been a mistake. It is wonderful here. I can walk to a local shop. I can take a bus into town if needed. And I get to walk out my door into this amazing world.
